By Video Artist – Iñigo Garrido/OaksBark. Made with pupils from Sacred Heart and Invergarven Primary Schools in Girvan.
Project commissioned by South Ayrshire Council.
This project, supported by grant funding from MGS and carried out in partnership with the Museums Service at South Ayrshire Council, looked at Scotland’s heritage in the form of lighthouses, and in particular at Ailsa Craig and the Mull of Galloway Lighthouses as a local resource to schools in the region. The project also included a visit to Kinnaird Head in Fraserburgh to the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses where the original light from Ailsa Craig is stored, and it features an interview with former lighthouse keeper John Tyson at the MacKechnie Institute.
The pupils involved created their animations based on the stories told by former lighthouse keepers, who were interviewed by the pupils themselves to preserve their community oral history by making this animation.
